Japan – Casino bill to miss Japan’s Diet session again

By -19 년 2016 월 XNUMX 일

Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party has said it will not try and pass a bill to allow casino gambling during the current Diet session due to its coalition partner Komeito being wary of the move.

Despite the bill being jointly presented by the LDP and two other parties during 2014’s ordinary legislative session, the LDP now wants to steer clear of a fall out with Komeito.

A member of LDP said: “We’ll give up again for this session. The problem is whether an accord can be reached between the LDP and Komeito.”

The administration of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has already pitched casino operations as a key item in the party’s economic growth strategy. The party hopes to revisit the casino topic in the autumn although this would make leave a tight time scale to open casinos in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
